Bio

Angee Lennard is an artist, arts administrator, professional printer, and educator. As the Founding Director of Spudnik Press Cooperative, Chicago’s nonprofit community-based printmaking studio, she grew the organization from an experimental work/live space into a dynamic organization unique in its dedication to providing approachable access to fine art printmaking to anyone who wishes to be creative through print. She led the organization for 15 years, from its inception in 2007 until 2022.

Under her leadership, Spudnik Press Cooperative became a singular organization providing pathways for all makers of all ages, experiences, and backgrounds to develop and sustain diverse creative practices. She envisioned and built a unique studio model that brings together professional printmaking facilities, residencies, fellowships, educational experiences, exhibitions, collaborative projects and public programs, all grounded in printmaking’s history as a community-minded and accessible art form. This multi-faceted, welcoming, and resilient studio model has put Spudnik Press Cooperative on the map at a national level.

She has been invited to speak to local, regional, and national audiences concerning a wide variety of topics concerning community printmaking efforts including community engagement, entrepreneurship, sustainability, studio operations, and collaboration. Her deep involvement in not only program development, but financial management, board development, studio maintenance, and print production has led her to a variety of consultancy roles with colleges, universities, non-profits, and museums.

Angee has produced dozens of new editions with both local and nationally-recognized artists. In collaboration with artists trained in fields beyond print, she has printed innovative artworks that utilize and explore printmaking processes, materials, aesthetics, history, or multiplicity. Prints published by Angee have been exhibited at the museums and galleries including The MoMA, the Smart Museum of Art, Monique Meloche, Editions VFO, and more.

Angee Lennard is also a devoted educator whose teaching experience ranges from arts administration to illustration. As a lecturer at SAIC in the Arts Administration and Policy department, Lennard has shared her perspective on the parallels between art making and arts administration and inspired students to find enjoyment in administrative roles. At Marwen, Lennard has led high school students through illustration, design, and printmaking projects. Her teaching at Spudnik Press Cooperative has focused on the technical elements of printmaking.
